The Poem of Meteor Lines
Behind my back modern vehicles howled. It was so nice to feel their invisible movement. Their fixed spokes echoed as they rotated. Mine was such a tense, mid-city soul. In intimate prototypes, colorless couples walked by. From far away, a cigarette burned in her invisible lips. The newspaper hawker didn’t understand the thoughts of the messenger, Paying no attention to the bird suddenly taking off. Lost in thought, indifferent personalities sat nearby. Preoccupied, the ennuied officer swayed in sparkling boots. My chest quivered with the tickle of uncaught steel. The city square drank to excess, alone, at a distance from the fountain. And it would have been better not to think. I felt like closing my eyes, So as with piquant sweetness to open them again. And to anguish all the ladies on the boulevard And so easily the mid-ether wine rippled into my chest. Motorcycle whines, describing meteor lines — The tram car stubbornly chased the junk dealer from the streets. Unseen spheres hummed, requiring responsive opinions, and it was unclear — where was the beginning of the clamor and where was its outer limit. Electric billboards shimmered in flames. Meteor showers shimmered, spinning everywhere. The street openly displayed everything — even the smallest — splotches. The street displayed its grief, which as a matter of principle doesn’t recognize tears. A street corner perpendicular against the background of a stone building with grey, unbroken balconies, Flooded with electricity, twitching from unaccustomed asthma, And knocking over figurines, spinning tops, and toy cars — without limits. And I felt the genius in the tumultuous, wound-up machine. And there was such a coordinated-autonomous motion. Human coalescings were squeezed in the current of an inexhaustible flow. Slightly I felt, like somewhere inside me, colossally hammering, something was constricting. Tragically a petty coin lost on the sidewalk shined. And no one noticed this drama, terrible in its microscopicity. A fetishist was adjusting a corset near a dark shop window. A cab driver dozed by the columns of soldiers, absorbing the droplets of moisture.
